“Don’t Worry”

By Dianne Prince

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, NKJV).

God’s desire is that we live each day free from spiritual bondage, free from psychological oppression and free from worry. His desire is that we live each day free from insecurity, free from the fear of what “might” happen and free from the concerns of making it from day to day. However, if we do not guard our minds the enemy will take our thoughts captive and keep us in a perpetual state of concern, worry and fear.

One way to control what we think about is to always keep a scripture handy. It is through scripture that we nullify the impact of the negative thoughts that come and go throughout the day.

One way to keep those negative thoughts under control is to permeate our atmosphere with God’s Word and keep our minds occupied with a promise from God.

Peace of mind and worry cannot co-exist. Either you are at peace, or you are worried about something. You cannot be in both states at the same time. So today, make a deliberate effort to be conscious of what you are thinking about. Why? Because your mind will tell you, you are defeated before you get out or bed. It will tell you things are worse than they really are. Your mind will tell you, “Here we go again. This is not going to end well.” It will tell you, “This is too hard” or “There is no way out.” So, always be aware of what you are thinking about. And always be ready to fight your negative thoughts with a promise from God.

Today’s scripture promises that, as you talk to God and repeat his Word, His peace will guard your heart and your mind. So, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
