“Life on the Move”

B y Dianne Prince

Our lives can be described as lives on the move because everything around us is constantly changing. In today’s Scripture, Moses is dead, and Joshua now bears the responsibility of leading over two million people into the Promised Land. Yet the Jordan River, swollen at flood stage, stands between them and the promise. Humanly speaking, there is no way to cross.

In the midst of this overwhelming challenge, God speaks to Joshua:
“Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” —Joshua 1:7 (NIV)

Here is the key lesson: When life throws you a curveball, do not dwell on what was. Instead, fix your eyes on what can be, and keep moving forward in the strength of the Lord. The winds of change will blow. The unexpected will happen. Death comes. Sickness comes. Financial struggle comes. Disappointment and heartbreak come. And at times, even loved ones lose their way.

Still, when life gets hard, do not give up. When the path is unclear, do not get caught up in fear or regret.

Let this encourage you today: God did not bring you to this moment to turn back and relive yesterday. When life hits hard, press on. When trials shake your world, press on. When others rise against you, press on. And when your past tries to pull you back into old habits, shake it off and press on.

Why? Because God is on your side. He is bigger than any mountain, stronger than any storm, and mightier than any hardship.

Life is always moving, and circumstances will always change. But make up your mind today: do not be swayed by the winds of life—trust God, and press on in faith.
