“Miracles at Midnight”

By Dianne Prince

“‘Now, LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, LORD, are God.’ That night the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies” (2 Kings 19:19, 35, NIV)!

In today’s passage, the Assyrians had conquered every nation they faced. When it came time for them to attack Judah—God’s people—King Hezekiah did not have a mighty army or great numbers on his side. But he had something far greater: he had God.

As soon as Hezekiah received word of the impending attack, he went straight to the temple and prayed. He placed his full trust in the one true and living God—the only One who holds ultimate power over every enemy.

Because of Hezekiah’s unwavering faith, God responded in a miraculous way. That very night, He sent an angel who struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. Without a single sword lifted by Judah, God fought—and won—the battle for them.

You may feel like the underdog today. Perhaps you are facing something that leaves you feeling powerless, overwhelmed, or discouraged. Maybe someone is trying to block your blessing, your faith is beginning to waver, and your resources are running low. Even so, remember this: you have God.

So dig deep. Continue trusting Him. When the enemy starts meddling, do not panic—pray. You will not always see how God is working, but it is not your job to see it or feel it. Your job is to believe. When your strength ends, His power begins.

God still works miracles. He will move in ways you do not expect, put people in place to help you, and remove obstacles that stand in your way.

Be reminded today: God is always at work, even when you cannot see it. While you are looking for Him to show up on the main road, He may surprise you by arriving on a side street. While you are trying to figure things out, He has already worked it out.
