“Stand Still and See”
By Dianne Prince
“And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever’” (Exodus 14:13, NKJV).
In today’s verse, the children of Israel had just been freed from slavery by the mighty hand of God. Following His lead, they left Egypt—only to find themselves trapped. Mountains hemmed them in on either side, the Red Sea blocked their path forward, and Pharaoh’s army was closing in behind. Faced with what looked like certain death, panic and complaints erupted. But Moses quieted their fears with a powerful instruction: “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.”
Sometimes, when you walk in obedience to God, He allows you to face situations where escape is not an option—and neither is control. In those moments, your only assignment is to trust Him. When life presses in and the way forward seems impossible, Scripture calls you not to rush, not to strive, but to stand still and seek God. Ask Him for the restraint to wait, and the faith to believe that He is working all things together for your good—even now.
Stand still today and trust God in your sickness.
Stand still and trust Him when your finances don’t make sense.
Stand still and trust Him for strength as you care for a loved one.
Stand still and trust Him to reach your unsaved or straying loved ones.
Be encouraged: when you stand still in faith, God is anything but still. He moves quietly on your behalf—unseen, unheard, but never uninvolved. He orchestrates circumstances, aligns people and opportunities, and turns hearts to favor you. His hand is never idle, even when yours must be.
So today, take courage. Stand still—and watch the Lord make a way where there is no way.
